Navan's new playground to be model for other areas

More than 200 primary school children welcomed President Michael D Higgins to the formal opening of the 'Is Feidir Linn' play area in Andy Brennan Park in Navan last week. The unique play area, which is fully accessible to children with disabilities, has been developed in partnership with all of the primary schools within the town of Navan and is the first such project of its type in Ireland. "The project has been developed in a beautiful setting, within the heartbeat of our town, close to the meeting of the Rivers Boyne and Blackwater and offers a safe, exciting, stimulating and accessible play area for everyone, as well as promoting active, imaginative, educational and adventurous play for the children of Navan," said a delighted Mayor, Cllr Anton McCabe. President Higgins, in his address, thanked the mayor and members of Navan Town Council for their invitation and recognised the great work being carried by all public representatives across the country. "I think that this project will be taken as a model, I hope, by local authorities around the country, as something that is active, imaginative, educational and adventurous " said President Higgins. "One of the splendid hallmarks of this project is the exercise in listening, listening to the children, consulting with them, asking them what you would like and delivering it for the children," he concluded.
