All roads lead to Nobber on 20th May for sixth annual fair day

The sixth annual Nobber Fair will be held on Sunday 20th May and the members of Nobber Vintage Club are already busy making preparations. The fair will start at 12 noon and run till 7pm and roads into the village will be closed from 9am until 7pm. Each year, Nobber Vintage Club committee members are up from early morning, organising pens and enclosures for the many different animals and various items that go on display throughout the village. Country singer Declan Nerney and his band will once again perform on the day, following on from the great reponse he got when he played last year. He and his band will perform from 3pm on the main street. Over the last number of years, there have been many animals on display at the event, including the complete spectrum of farmyard animals and fowl with old-fashioned breeds like bronze turkeys, geese, Rhode Island Red Hens, bantams, horses and foals, donkeys and foals, sheep and cattle attracting much attention. Amusements This year, as in previous years, there will be an extensive colourful array of children's amusements that will be kept busy all day long. Other attractions will include go-kart racing and a ducking chair run by Moynalty Macra Na Feirme. The Queen of the Fair competition, now an annual event, will take place in the afternoon. Reigning Queen is local girl Lisa Clarke. For the third time, Nobber Fair will include a vintage tractor and classic cars display located in the field behind Nobber Primary School. The display is organised by the club and anyone wishing to book a place can ring club member James Carolan on (087) 252 7086. At last year's event, the best turned-out car and tractor on the day was judged by Declan Nerney, who himself is a vintage tractor enthusiast. During the day, as with the previous fairs, visitors can sample a delicious tasting of spit-roasted pig cooked by Gavin Minifie from Nobber. A dog show will be held, where Tom Shiels, chairman of Meath Regional Game Council, will demonstrate the skills of working dogs, including labaradors and springer spaniels, in obedience, steady to shot and retrieving. Nobber Vintage Club will donate the proceeds from the fair to charities and local organisations. The club will formally launch the fair on Saturday 5th May in Dee Local at 8.30pm.
