Ann Goggins, Trim The death occurred on 2nd February last, at her home, of Ms Ann Goggins, 'Trotts', Friarspark, Trim, and formerly of Ash Priors, Bishops Lyeard, Taunton, Somerset, England, aged 86. Ms Goggins, a native of Clonfane, Trim, spent over 40 years in the nursing profession in England, before returning to her native Trim some 25 years ago. Deceased gained her nursing qualifications in the Tone Vale Hospital, Taunton, and in Royal Devon and Exeter Nursing College. She carved out a very successful career in nursing, specialising in the care of the elderly. She became matron of both Halse Manor Hospital and Lynchfield Hospital, both near Taunton, Somerset. Her reputation as a caring and compassionate professional was matched by her administrative skills, which, combined, resulted in the hospitals in her charge being the recipients of many awards for the standard of care administered. Deceased was devoted sister to the late Sue Goggins, who also retired to Trim after a lifetime career in nursing in Britain. Ann Goggins nursed her sister in the latter years of her life, thus honouring Sue's wish to spend her final years in the comfort of their home in Trim. Ms Goggins was also predeceased by her parents, William and Mary, brothers, John, James and Willie, and sisters, Mag Kenny, Mitchelstown, Athboy, and Julia Mulvany, Kells. She is survived by her nephews and nieces, including Michael Goggins, Trim, John Goggins, Wexford, and Liam Goggins, Monaghan, Gerard Kenny, Mitchelstown, Athboy; Marie Flanagan, Kells; sister-in-law, May Goggins, Kildalkey; grandnephews and grandnieces, great grandnephews and great grandnieces; neighbour and close friend, Jan Way; and close friends, Jane and Mickie Cregan, Trim, and Kevin Higgins, Trim. The funeral Mass took place in St Patrick's Church, Trim, celebrated by Fr Mark Mohan, CC, with Matt Gilsenan, soloist, accompanied by Miriam Mooney, organist. Erika Goggins, grandniece of the deceased, also sang during the Mass. Deceased was an outgoing and sociable person, who, even in her advancing years, enjoyed entertaining and being entertained. Fr Mohan referred to her strong religious belief and her sociable personality. He stated that his lasting memory of her would be of a lively fun-loving person "with a Rosary in one hand, and a Kir Royale in the other" - a perfect summary of her approach to life. She prided herself in her immaculate appearance and dress sense. Deceased was cremated in Mount Jerome Crematorium. Her ashes were laid to rest in the family plot in St Loman's Cemetery, Trim, alongside her nephew, Anthony, who died in 1981 aged 21, after a lifetime battle with Cystic Fibrosis. In a tribute to his aunt, Michael Goggins recounted how it was through her care and medical connections in the UK that Anthony enjoyed a much longer and fuller life than might have otherwise been the case. At a time when CF was relatively unknown, she discovered a specialist in Bristol Children's Hospital, whose growing interest in and knowledge of CF enabled Anthiony to live for 21 years, close to a record in Ireland that time for a sufferer. ____________________________________________________________ Florence Foran, Longwood The passing of Ms Florence (Babbie) Foran, Greenview, Longwood, at St Joseph's Hospital, Trim on Sunday 6th May, created widespread sadness around Longwood and the surrounding areas.
