Delight at O'Hara visit success
Dear sir - It was with great pleasure and pride that I witnessed the magnificent homecoming welcome given to screen legend, Maureen O'Hara by the people of my hometown in Kells. Ms O'Hara was on a visit to the town to commemorate her family connections - her father originating from the town. Many functions and events were held throughout the weekend of her visit, which culminated in the unveiling of a bronze statue in her honour at Bective Square in the town and a wonderful gala dinner attended by over 400 people. The people of Kells extended a wonderfully warm welcome to the screen goddess they now look upon as one of their own and I was delighted to see such an enormous turnout for the woman who was known as the 'Queen of Technicolour' in her film screen days. Kells' people showed exceptional community spirit, painting shop fronts and organising clean-ups of the town in the run-up to her visit, and everyone's hard work paid off when the sun shone throughout Ms O'Hara's visit. I would like to commend the people of Kells for their sterling efforts and I don't think Ms O'Hara can be in any doubt that she is still loved and adored by so many. Yours, Ray Butler TD, Meath West.
