Women In Business Seminar

Enterprising Women in Meath, June 29th, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. The Meath Chronicle in association with Generali Pan Europe and Meath County Enterprise Board will host a seminar in the beautiful setting of Killeen Castle. It's over a quarter of a century since the term 'glass ceiling' was coined by the Wall Street Journal to describe the notional barriers that have prevented women from reaching the pinnacle of the corporate hierarchy. The intervening years have shown conclusively that, in many areas of the business world, this glass ceiling has been well and truly shattered. Research now indicates that women are rising to the higher echelons of the business world, not only in Ireland but also in international corporations. And more women in Ireland than ever are now engaging in entrepreneurial activities. This mirrors a trend that has emerged in the United States where, in the past decade or so, the number of businesses owned by female entrepreneurs has doubled. With a strong Celtic heritage which has encouraged women to be leaders and innovators, Irish women have proven to be dynamic business leaders in a wide range of businesses throughout Ireland and beyond these shores. In County Meath, too, there are many women who can share this story of business success, despite the turbulent and difficult economic times in which we find ourselves. Some of the county's most successful female entrepreneurs will be in the spotlight on Friday 29th June at Killeen Castle, Dunsany, when the Meath Chronicle, in association with Generali PanEurope and the Meath County Enterprise Board, will stage a Women in Business seminar from 9.30am to 12.30pm. Among the speakers will be Mary Sadlier, CEO of Coole Swan, who will address the issue of building a brand; Olivia Duff from the Headfort Arms Hotel, Kells, and Hilary Harrington, head of compliance for Navan based Generali PanEurope. Other speakers will be Meghan Smith, editor of southeast Meath's Forum newspaper; Lorna Cooney, from the Meath County Enterprise Board, on supporting enterprise in Meath, and Yvonne Walsh from Flo Web Design on using social media to your advantage. The event promises to be an excellent networking opportunity. For anyone looking to start up a new business, making new contacts, finding suppliers and identifying potential new customers is critical for success - and that is where networking is so important.
