Reopening of Conyngham Arms welcomed by locals
New life came back to a centre-point of Slane village yesterday (Tuesday) when the Conyngham Arms Hotel's doors were re-opened for the first time in three years. The new owners, Brian and Patricia Conroy, who also own Tankardstown House and Courtyard Cottages, bought the hotel and got the keys six weeks ago. Since then, the hotel has been undergoing an extensive refurbishment and decoration. Mrs Conroy said that the hotel was, essentially, a village hotel and it would remain so. "This is a hotel primarily for the people of Slane to eat, drink, celebrate and commiserate in," she said. Describing the hotel as very much a different property to nearby Tankardstown House, she said: "It will be very much the little sister to Tankardstown" and promised that the emphasis would be placed on good food and good value. The hotel was built in 1850 and is in the heart of the Boyne Valley with easy access to the Brú na Bóinne interpretive centre, Navan, Drogheda, and their hinterland.
