O'Rourke may consider managerial role
Both Colm O'Rourke and Sean Kelly will consider going for the position of Meath senior football team manager if nominated while Liam Harnan hasn't ruled out the prospect of allowing his name to go forward. With the deadline set for this Friday at 4.0 a number of nominations have already been received by the Meath Co Board for the role. It is almost certain that both O'Rourke and Kelly will be nominated for the high-profile role and at that stage they will consider their options. "You need a lot of time to do that job, but I'll think about it certainly if I'm nominated, " said O'Rourke on Tuesday morning. Harnan, who had a spell as selector during Seamus McEnaney's two years in charge and also managed the u-21 team this year, is also likely to be nominated. He said he had "no comment" to make on his position at this stage however, as a dairy farmer he may feel he hasn't got the time to take on a job that requires so much commitment. Kelly, who is a teacher, would also consider going for the post attracted by the prospect of managing his county team. The former Dunderry player, who along with Sean Barry guided Navan O'Mahonys to the 2008 SFC, also played for Meath during Sean Boylan's reign and was involved in the unforgettable four-game saga with Dublin in 1991. "When and if the decision has to be made I'll make it then," said Kelly. "At the end of the day it's your county and everyone aspires to managing your county team at some stage. You would be intrigued all right but we'll see what happens. I haven't really thought about it at this stage." Paddy Carr, John Evans and Gerry McEntee are others who have already been mentioned for the Meath job while Graham Geraghty has also declared his interest in the post. Another name that could end up in the mix is Eamonn McEneaney the former Louth and Monaghan manager. McEneaney, who coached Trim for a spell, went forward for the Meath post previously and, if nominated, he could be persuaded to put his name forward once more. Nominations close this Friday, 4.0 but a decision will not be finalised until the end of September with the new manager likely to be unveiled at the October Co Board meeting at Áras Tailteann.
