Paddy Carr has declared his interest in the vacant Meath senior football managerial position.

Carr has interest in Meath role

Donaghmore/Ashbourne manager Sean Kelly has confirmed that he will not be running for the position of Meath senior team manager even if he one of those nominated, but Paddy Carr has declared an interest in the position. Kelly, a Drogheda-based teacher, is studying for a masters in education and wishes to concentrate on that for the moment. "I'm in the third year of the masters course and that's what I want to focus on for the immediate future. I won't be going for the Meath position," he told the Meath Chronicle on Tuesday morning. Carr, a former Walterstown player told the Meath Chronicle that he would interested in becoming the next senior team manager, if nominated. "A number of clubs have approached me and I'm willing to allow my name to go forward," he said. Carr guided Kilmacud Crokes to two Dublin SFC titles as well as two Leinster Club SFC crowns, the last in 2011. He also led the Crokes to an All-Ireland SFC success in 2009. He also managed the Louth seniors and was in charge when Geraghty scored a dramatic late goal to deny the Wee County a famous victory in 2002. Carr also had spells with Summerhill and the Meath minors and enjoyed considerable success at schools level with St Oliver's Community School, Drogheda. The interviews for the position of Meath senior team manager will get underway in the days "immediately" after next Monday night's Co Board meeting chairman Barney Allen has confirmed, but he was unable to identify the nominees when contacted by the Meath Chronicle on Tuesday. However, it is expected that the names will be widely known after this Thursday night's Co Board management committee meeting. Colm O'Rourke, Gerry McEntee, Liam Harnan, Trevor Giles, Graham Geraghty and Kelly are all expected to be among the names put forward by clubs although there are sure to be others added to the mix. It is also doubtful if Giles, who runs his own business and has a young family, will go through the interviewing process. The Skryneman, however, may be interested becoming a member of any new backroom team. The members of the committee to interview the candidates is also expected to be announced at next Monday night's meeting. The Co Board chairman also confirmed that the senior manager will be decided before a final decision is taken on who will be the u-21 coach. Pat Coyle, Giles and Andy McEntee are among those nominated for the u-21 position and it is expected that their interviews will take place in conjunction with those for the senior role. The Co Board are anxious that this time around both the senior and u-21 managers will work closer together than has been the case in the past. "Unless something unforeseen happens we will announce both the u-21 and the senior managers at the October meeting, that's the deadline we set ourselves and we intend to keep to that," added Allen.
