'Sister Act' in town to promote charity show

We're not sure what the collective word for a gathering of nuns is, but a 'flash mob' of them descended on Navan Town Centre on Saturday to promote next month's concert 'OMG Broadway', which takes place at the Solstice in aid of Meath River Rescue and animal charity, Last Hope. Produced and directed by RTE broadcaster Joan Larkin, the show is a two-hour medley of scenes and songs from the likes of 'Footloose', 'Legally Blonde', 'Les Miserables', 'Matilda', 'Annie', 'Billy Elliot' and 'Hairspray', and 'Sister Act'. It will be on stage in Solstice Arts Theatre on 19th and 20th October. Joan Larkin says: "As well as giving people a wonderful night of entertainment, OMG Broadway will also help two local charities, both of which are close to my heart, the Meath River Rescue, because I come from a long line of firefighters and rescue personnel, and Last Hope in Navan, because they do so much good work in trying to stop cruelty, and help to save the lives of so many abused and abandoned animals in the county." In putting the show together, Joan pulled in talents from St Mary's Musical Society in Navan, and Trim Musical Society, as well as youngsters from Spotlight Stage School. The cast numbers about 70 in total, and the show will offer something for everyone with a love of music. "We are staging scenes exactly as they are in the original Broadway Productions, no half measures here, the words 'it will do' are not in my vocabulary," Joan says.
