Meath Hill footballer dies in motorcycle collision

Gardai in Nobber are appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle collision on the R165 at Dromconrath, on Saturday 8th September. At approximately 6.30pm a man aged in his early 20s was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was driving was in a collision on the R165 at Cloughrea, Dromconrath. He was taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where he was later pronounced dead. He has been named as Niall Tully of Drumconrath, a member of the Meath Hill football club, whose club was playing Longwood in the Junior D final at Pairc Tailteann on Saturday evening. The road was closed for a technical examination by forensic collision investigators. Junior D final abandoned in Navan Saturday, 8th September, 2012 Tonight's Junior D FC final at Pairc Tailteann was abandoned at half-time following the tragic death of Meath Hill player. The game between Meath Hill and Longwood was abandoned before the second-half could start when word came through about the bereavement. The young man, who played with the club's Junior A team, was involved in a motorcycle accident near his home in Meath Hill early on Saturday evening. The news filtered through that he had passed away during the first half of the Junior D final. The decision was taken to abandon the game at half-time. At the time Meath Hill led 2-2 to 1-4. That game in Navan was the third game of the evening and had been preceded by two SFC games where Navan O'Mahonys defeated Seneschalstown and Summerhill narrowly got the better of Duleek / Bellewstown.
