Palace hosts headshave for Togo school project
Eco Play Togo is a Navan-based charity aiming to help build a school and an eco friendly playground in a village in Togo, West Africa. It was set up by Koffi Montcho who lives in Navan and has been living in Ireland for the past eight years. He opened his tyre business which created a spark within him to help the people in his home village. Both he and his wife initially planed to use the old tyres by recycling them and making playgrounds for the children of the village. This, on consultation, grew into a programme to foster the relief of poverty through education. Koffi was the first volunteer and he is shaving off his dreadlocks which he has had for 11 years! In targeting the village of Lomey they hope to help educate the people by providing materials and infrastructures to empower them to help themselves in the future. They say: "We as a group hope to travel next year to start our building project and supply them with other basic items. Our first project this year however is to send basic school supplies such as readers, dictionaries, geometry sets, as presently the children use slates and chalk to write on which has to be wiped off all the time. Our belief is everything starts with education. Without that there is nothing. Carrying on from that we hope to run education programmes to create an awareness of their environment and to be self sufficient and raise funds themselves to equip the school in the future. "Our first fundraising event is a sponsored head shave/body wax. It will be held in The Palace Bar in Navan, on Sunday 21st October at 8pm - 10pm sharp. We will be running a prize draw with some wonderful items donated by various local retailers and friends. We are blessed with some wonderful volunteers who have put themselves forward to be de-fuzzed for the benefit of the villagers of Lomey, Togo. "
