Jockey launches 2012 Dunsany Chase
Andrew Thornton, who rode Lion na Bearnai to victory in this year's Fairyhouse Irish Grand National, visited Dunsany National School to launch details of the 2012 Dunsany Cross Country Chase, one of the country's longest-running and most popular chase events. The annual pre-Christmas event, which benefits schools and charities in the Dunsany and Kilmessan areas, attracts riders who enjoy the challenges of the big Meath countryside, and the National-winning jockey has enjoyed taking part in the ride in the past. Currently living in Dunderry, he grew up in the Bective area and is well familiar with the territory. This year's route takes in the Dunsany, Warrenstown, Killeen, Berrilstown, Trevit and Smithstown areas, and takes place on Sunday, 9th December. It will be followed by the traditional post-chase auction event in the local Horace Plunkett Hall. Cap is €30 and €20, and further details are available from Dunsany School on (046) 902 5058.
