O'Mahonys open with easy win
Navan O’Mahonys opened the defence of their Keegan Cup crown with a comfortable 0-15 to 0-5 win over Moynalvey at Skryne tonight (Friday).
The defending champions were never troubled by the 2011 IFC winners who were without several key players and who looked a pale shadow of the side that made such an impressive impact last year. O’Mahonys excelled throughout and led by 0-7 to 0-3 at the break.
Jake Regan top scored for the winners with five points and with 13 of their total coming from play. O’Mahonys also had decent returns from Shane Gillespie and David Bray.
Worryingly Stephen Bray was forced off with a hamstring problem early in the second-half. It is not known if the problem will rule him out of next Saturday’s NFL Div 3 final against Monaghan, but the watching Meath manager Mick O’Dowd will be concerned with this latest blow.
Scorers: Navan O’Mahonys - J Regan (0-5 one free), S Gillespie (0-3), P Smyth (0-2), D Bray (0-2), H Finnegan (0-1 free), B Dillon (0-1), D Moran (0-1); Moynalvey - C Ennis (0-3 frees), M O’Sullivan (0-1), P Weldon (0-1).
