Co Board finances may be worse than reported at convention
Meath GAA Co Board's financial plight could be up to €100,000 worse than was reported at last December's annual convention it emerged at tonight's meeting at Áras Táilteann.
A report from treasurer Brendan Dempsey informed the small number of delegates who were present that he may have to make provision for an overall deficit of around €275,000 instead of the €180,000 that was reported at the annual convention.
It was reported that there could be a shortfall in sponsorship although no particular sponsor or sponsors were formally identified.
Meath's financial plight resulted in a summons from CrokePark for members of the Executive Committee to attend a meeting.
Chairman Conor Tormey, secretary Francis Flynn and treasurer Brendan Dempsey attended a National Finance Committee meeting in CrokePark on 27th April last.
'We were up there like bold children,' commented Co Board secretary Francis Flynn as delegates were told of restrictions that were now in place until the deficit of up to €275,000 is addressed.
No development work will be permitted until the deficit is addressed and an increase of €100,000 in fundraising must also be achieved.
However, there was also some good news for delegates when it was reported that gate receipts from first round championship games showed an increase over the 2012 amount despite a reduction to €5 in admission prices.
