Rapid response emergency vehicle for Trim
The National Ambulance Service is to locate a rapid response vehicle in Trim within days.
The vehicle, which will be capable of carrying vital medical equipment but no patients, will be in place in the grounds of St Joseph’s Community Nursing Unit by the end of the month. It will act as a first responder vehicle to the scene of an emergency and will be staffed by paramedics.
The news has been welcomed by Trim area councillor Jimmy Fegan.
A site visit was carried out by the operations resource manager from the Ambulance Service to Trim on two occasions last month. In turn, the Ambulance Service said it was satisfied that the accommodation in the former health centre would be suitable and works are going on to make the facilities suitable for the service “with a planned ‘go live’ of the service for end July”.
The HSE said that “this development is very positive for Trim and the surrounding areas who will benefit from this valuable public service resource”.
Rapid response vehicles, often a station wagon-type carrier can be used to improve response times in an emergency. They are flexible and can operate with greater ease in busy traffic than a full-size ambulance.
