Hurling fines and suspensions to be appealed

Trim and Dunboyne GAA clubs will bid to have suspensions that were impsoed arising out of the abandoned SHC game at Ratooath on Friday 12th July overturned next week when they appeal to Meath Co Board.

Although it has not been confirmed by Meath Co Board, the game that was abandoned two minutes into added time due to an injury to a Dunboyne player, has been declared void and will not be re-fixed.

A fine of €1,000 each has also been imposed on Trim and Dunboyne.

Although no one was sent-off by referee Conor Ferguson, four players have been suspended after the report from the referee was considered.

Dunboyne’s Michael Dunne and Trim’s Neil Heffernan, Ryan Andrews and James Andrews have all been suspended and, as it stands at the moment, will miss next weekend’s fourth round of the SHC.

Trim are scheduled to play Navan O’Mahonys at Athboy on Sunday (11th August) and Dunboyne will play Rathmolyon at Longwood, also on Sunday.

Both clubs have confirmed to the Meath Chronicle that they will appeal the decisions and it is understod that they will be heard on Tuesday (6th) or Wednesday (7th) next week.

Trim were ahead in the game by 0-16 to 0-13 when it was abandoned and could now face a tough challenge to qualify, especially if they are beaten by O’Mahonys on Sunday.

With three players currently suspended, Trim could struggle in that game.

If Na Fianna beat Drumree on Sunday it could make the final group game between Na Fianna and Trim a play-off game for a quarter-final position.

Dunboyne could also find the going tough now against Rathmolyon who will target maximum points from their remaining two games to maintain their chances of qualification
