Michael Farrell exhibition for show in Paris

The Michael Farrell exhibition, which opened in Navan last week, is to travel to the Irish Cultural Centre in Paris next year, Solstice Arts Centre director Belinda Quirke has confirmed.

An overdue exhibition of the work of an international artist of great significance, was how Pat Moylan, the chairperson of the Arts Council, described the exhibition' The Work of Michael Farrell'.

She was speaking at the opening of the exhibition of the paintings of the Cookstown, Kells native artist who spent a lot of his life in France.
Ms Moylan said that Michael Farrell’s work was always embedded in Ireland and Irishness, even though he lived abroad.
“The work on display here shows the international influence on his deeply embedded national concerns,” she added.
The Arts Council is supporting the exhibition with a touring award, and it will go on to the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin, and the Crawford Gallery in Cork.
Pat Moylan said this was very fitting for Michael Farrell’s work, given that he had lived in France since the 1970s, until his death in 2000. The exhibition was a comprehensive, extensive retrospective of his work, that can be enjoyed by everybody in Meath, Ms Moylan added. The work is from private collections, galleries, and the Farrell Estate.  The exhibition will continue until 19th October.
