O'Mahonys advance in Feis Cup

Navan O'Mahonys negotiated Skryne in this Feis Cup last night by 2-16 to 1-12 to earn a place in the semi-finals.

O'Mahonys were ahead by 0-9 to 1-5, at the break, but were quickly boosted by a Stephen Bray goal after the resumption. A string of points coupled with a Niall McKeigue goal left the town side 2-14 to 1-7 clear by the three-quarter mark.

With Mark Battersby leading the way, Skryne dug into the deficit somewhat in the time remaining but had too much to do to stop O'Mahonys advancing to a semi-final meeting with Seneschalstown or Clann na nGael.

Battersby opened the scoring but O'Mahonys responded with four points on the bounce including two from wing-back Gary O'Brien, who scored three in the opening period.

Skryne hit the front again in the 20th minute when Battersby netted from close range. Pat Coyle's men saw earlier goal attempts from Brian Davis and Paddy Fox stopped by O'Mahonys' 'keeper Marcas Brennan.

Again O'Mahonys responded positively, this time with a brace of Shane Gillespie points and another from Stephen Bray. Battersby got Skryne back on terms before Henry Finnegan landed the final score of the opening half that gave the Navan side a lead they held to the end.
