Voters opt for Longwood victory in hurling decider

Our poll on the outcome of the Meath SHC Jubilee Cup final attracted a large number of voters with the verdict swaying narrowly in favour of Longwood by 53 per cent to 47 per cent in favour of Kilmessan.

Hopes are high in Longwood who have had to wait 52 years to get back to a decider.

The last time Longwood were in a senior hurling final was 1961 and they lost to Kilmessan.

The last time Longwood won the SHC was 1936 when they beat Kilmessan.

Longwood defeated reigning champions Kiltale by 1-22 to 2-16 in the semi-final while Kilmessan had a fantastic 3-15 to 2-13 semi-final victory over Dunboyne, despite playing most of the second-half with 14 men.

Supporters attending Sunday’s decider at Páirc Táilteann will have the IHC decider between Gaeil Colmcille and Blackhall Gaels as a curtainraiser at 1.30 with the senior tie set for 3.30 after all the preliminaries are completed.

Admission to Pairc Tailteann will be by ticket only, €15 with concessions for senior citizens and students (€10) with valid identification.

Tickets will be on sale at the turnstiles outside the main entrance at Brews Hill and also at the Commons Road (old swimming pool) car park entrance.
