National Tidy Towns Prizegiving for Moynalty

Ireland’s tidiest town, the north Meath village of Moynalty will host a special awards ceremony for the Tidy Towns Competition in the village on Friday week (8th November).
Winners of national, regional and other awards will travel from all over Ireland to Moynalty for the awards ceremony and presentations to the winners of the various categories by Minister Fegus O’Dowd.
Moynalty is hosting the event in the Community Hall, an honour that goes to the overall winner of the national competition.
Next spring, President Michael D Higgins will travel to the village to unveil a plaue to commemorate its national win.
The village is looking spectacularly well at the moment and an extra special effort will be made by local volunteers to have it looking even better than ever for the awards ceremony.
Moynalty was named the overall winner of this year’s Supervalu National Tidy Towns competition in September, beating off competition from 831 other towns and villages around the country to take top honours.
The announcement was made at a ceremony in the Helix in Dublin and was greeted with great celebrations.
Moynalty was also awarded the title of Ireland’s tidiest village.
The win came for Moynalty after 53 years in the competition.
Moynalty was the first Meath winner of the competition since Trim won the tidy towns title in 1984. As overall winner, a cheque for €10,000 and a trophy is awarded, as well as a prize for €5,000 and trophy for being named as the country’s tidiest village.
Moynalty scored an impressive 316 points, gaining an extra six marks on their score last year.
