Summerhill exit Leinster race
Summerhill exited the Leinster Club SFC this afternoon at Parnell Park in Dublin when they were edged out by hosts St Vincent's who progressed to the provincial decider with a 1-14 to 1-10 victory.
Mossy Quinn scored 1-8 for the Dublin champions who held off a stern Summerhill challenge to set up a Leinster final with Portlaoise.
Quinn scored 1-3 in the opening half to help St Vincent’s to a 1-7 to 0-6 interval lead and he added five more points in the second period.
The Dublin champions survived a determined fightback from a Summerhill team that finished with 14 players after Stephen Husband collected a second yellow card near the end.
Summerhill took an early 0-4 to 0-1 lead through Brian Ennis (two frees), David Larkin and Conor Gillespie.
Quinn narrowed the gap before further scores from Ennis and Sean Dalton gave the Meath men a 0-6 to 0-3, but Quinn then found the net which helped St Vincent's to that interval lead.
More points from Quinn after the resumption sustained St Vincent's, but Summerhill got back into contention with a fisted Paul Rispin goal and points from Dalton, Adrian Kenny and Gillespie to leave them adrift by a point (1-9 to 1-10), but that was as close as they got.
