Mick O'Dowd and Trevor Giles will assess some new players in the Fitzsimons Cup.

Black card might be used in Fitzsimons Cup!

Meath supporters will be able to get an idea of what the new-look senior football team might look like on Sunday 8th December in Kells when Mick O’Dowd’s men play their first game of the new season in the Gaeil Colmcille-promoted Fitzsimons Cup.

Meath will face Westmeath in the semi-final of the revived inter-county tournament.

There is also a possibility the new black card rules could be used in an effort to let the players get familiar with the new disciplinary system that will be introduced from 1st January next.

The Meath game against Westmeath will throw-in at 2pm at Grangegodden with the first semi-final scheduled for midday between Cavan and Offaly.

The following Sunday, 15th December, the final will be contested at the same venue while the two beaten semi-finalists will also play-off for third and fourth places.

It is understood that the times for the games on 15th December will be similar with the beaten semi-finalists from 8th December games scheduled for midday and the final for 2pm.
