Meath players feature for Dundalk IT
Dundalk IT Freshers team secured their place in the All Ireland Div 2 final this week after emerging victorious over Queen Universtity, Belfast in a very tight game by 1-12 to 1-9.
Meath players on the panel included John Smith (Seneschalstown), Kevin Dunne (Slane) Andrew Bellew (Rathkenny), Ryan Cooney (Duleek), Elliot Grace (Clan na Gael) and Sean Ryan (Summerhill)
Dundalk started well and led 1-7 to 0-4 at half-time, but Queens rallied in the second-half and clawed their way back into the game with some superb scores from their Armagh, Tyrone and Down u-21 players.
Dundalk stemmed the tide and kept their noses in front with some tactical changes from the management team and vital scores in the last 15 minutes to cement their place in the All Ireland final against Tralee IT next Wednesday in Rosscrea.
Scorers for Dundalk were Shane Davis (Skerries Harps) 0-1, Gareth Rooney (Rathoath) 0-1, Johnny Connolly (Sean O'Mahonys), Robbie Quigley (O'Connells) 0-2. Ryan Clerkin (Shercock) 1-0, Cian Doyle (O'Connells) 0-6, Mark McCabe (Drumhowan) 0-1, Donnacha Dolan (Scotstown) 0-1, Gideon Lugoye (Wolfe Tones) 0-1.
Dundalk IT ladies reached the semi-final of the league after finishing second in their group.
They were pitted against St Pat’s Drumcondra on their home ground last Thursday. Up against a stiff breeze the girls battled hard and were down by five points at half-time.
With the backing of the wind in the second half the deficit was clawed back and had to go into extra-time where St Pat’s prevailed by 1-18 to 1-15.
Meath players on the team included Treasa Sheridan(Dunsany), Sarah O'Reilly (Oldcastle) Martina Kelly (Clan na Gael), Sarah Markham and Laura Twomey(Donaghmore/Ashbourne), Emma Fitzpatrick (Skryne), Danielle Sweeney (St Colmcille's) Bevin Usher (Royal Gaels).
