No changes at convention

No change was the theme at tonight's Meath GAA annual convention in Navan where 58 out of 59 clubs were represented as delegates packed into the impressive O'Mahony's clubhouse for what turned out to be a very positive meeting.

There were a number of votes for positions including vice-chairman and assistant-secretary as well as Leinster Council (Clann na nGael).

Peter O'Halloran was returned as vice-chairman by 146 to 27 against Malachy Plunkett while Mairead Delaney won the vote for assistant-secretary by 102 to 68 against Jimmy Henry.

Brian Carberry and Francis Lynch held on to their Leinster Council seats in the first vote where the PR system was used and Meath Co Council official Kevin Stewart guided the tellers through the count.

Carberry (90 votes) was elected on the first count – the quota was 58; other votes in first count – Francis Lynch 34, Barney Allen 37, Cyril Creavin 11; second count – Lynch plus 22 (56) Allen plus 6 (43), Creavin plus 4 (15); third count – Lynch plus 3 (59 elected); Allen plus 4 (47). 

Officers elected were: chairman – Conor Tormey; vice-chairman – Peter O'Halloran, secretary – Francis Flynn; assistant-secretary – Mairead Delaney; treasurer – Brendan Dempsey; assistant-treasurer – Dessie Murtagh; Central Council – Brendan Cummins; Leinster Council - ; PRO – Martin O'Halloran; development officer – Jim Mullery; Irish officer – Micheal O Gallachoir; Coaching officer - Eamonn Barry.
