Meath defeat Westmeath

Meath senior footballers got back to some action today with a 1-12 to 0-7 victory over Westmeath in the Fitzsimons Cup SFT semi-final at Grangegodden, Kells.

Andrew Tormey and Conor Sheridan started at midfield with David Bray returning to the full-forward line while Sean Curran was at full-back.

Meath were ahead by four points (0-7 to 0-3) at the interval with the scores from Damien Carroll (three), Seamus Mattimoe (two), Donal Lenihan and Paddy Gilsenan.

Meath remained in the ascendancy after the resumption with Carroll finding the net for the all-important goal.

Meath will play Offaly next Sunday in the decider.

Offaly were due to play Cavan, but Cavan did not field for the game.

However, Westmeath will play Cavan in the curtainraiser next Sunday.
