Meath lose to Offaly in Fitzsimons final
Offaly retained the Fitzsimons Cup with a resounding 4-12 to 2-12 victory over an experimental Meath side at Grangegodden today.
Meath started well with a Donal Lenihan goal boosting them to a 1-0 to 0-1 lead after three minutes, but by half-time they found themselves 2-3 to 2-10 adrift.
The introduction of Graham Reilly for the ill Shane O’Rourke at half-time roused Meath into an improved second-half and they did manage to get the deficit down to four points with Reilly helping himself to five points.
However, despite a five-point haul from Cillian O’Sullivan Meath were always playing second fiddle and when Offaly bagged their third goal from the penalty it signalled the end of the hosts ambitions.
