Good Meath performance in Hastings Cup debut
Meath proved too strong for Wicklow in their debut game in the u-21 Hastings Cup football at Ashbourne yesterday where a solid looking Royal County side dictated for most of the hour for a 2-18 to 1-6 victory.
Meath were ahead by 2-7 to 1-4 at the interval with the goals from Walterstown’s Rory O’Dowd and Curraha’s James McEntee.
Wicklow closed the gap to four points folloiwng a positive start to the second-half, but that was close as they got and the Meath lads eased away for a comfortable victory.
Meath manager Sean Barry used 20 players and will continue assessing the strengths of his panel next weekend when Leitrim visit the Royal County for a second round game in this competition.
That game will be played at Millbrook, Oldcastle.

Meath’s Leinster u-21 FC quarter-final game against Louth on Wednesday 5th March will be played at Haggardstown.
