Barry Geraghty is Meath sportsperson of the year
Barry Geraghty was last night selected as the Meath Sportsperson of the year for 2013 at a gala awards night at Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim in front of more than 350 guests.
Geraghty was one of 12 monthly winners eligible for the award – he was selected as the March winer following his tremendous victories at Cheltenham which included the Champion Chase on board Sprinter Sacre.
The Drumree man was joined on stage for the presentation by his eight-year-old daughter Siofra, his wife Paula and parents Tucker and Bea.
“Winning this award is very special as it's on home turf and I'm a Meath man, it;s great that my family are here as well,” he commented before outlining the up to date position with Sprinter Sacre and the enjoyment he got from his victory with Bobs Worth at Leopardstown at Christmas.
The Meath Chronicle / Cusack Hotel Group annual awards were introduced in 2007 following an initiative by the late John Cusack to recognise the achievements of local (Meath) sportspeople.
