Strong Meath team for O'Byrne Cup final

Meath manager Mick O’Dowd has named a strong starting 15 for Sunday’s eagerly-awaited O’Byrne Cup final against Kildare at Newbridge with a full-forward line of Eamon Wallace, Stephen Bray and Michael Newman.

Meath will be bidding to prevent Kildare completing a two-in-a-row in the decider that will be televised by TG4, throw-in at 2pm.

Meath last faced Kildare in the O’Byrne Cup final 25 years ago back in 1989 when the Lilywhites won by 2-8 to 0-9, but next Sunday’s final should be a much higher scoring affair.

In the semi-finals Meath defeated a DCU team that knocked out Dublin and the Royals won by  4-15 to 2-6 last Sunday while Kildare were 5-17 to 2-11 winners against UCD a week ago.

The Meath team is:

Conor McHugh (Oldcastle)

Donal Keogan (Rathkenny)

Michael Burke (Longwood)

Caolan Young (Summerhill)

Davy Dalton (Summerhill)

Eoghan Harrington (Wolfe Tones)

Paddy Gilsenan (Oldcastle)

Conor Gillespie (Summerhill)

Andrew Tormey (Donaghmore/Ashbourne)

Padraig McKeever (Simonstown Gaels)

Dalton McDonagh (Na Fianna)

David Larkin (Summerhill)

Eamon Wallace (Ratoath)

Stephen Bray (Navan O’Mahonys)

Michael Newman (Kilmainham).
