Council may seize Kilcarn Four?
The Kilcarn Four – the quartet of abandoned horses in a marshy field adjacent to the Old Kilcarn Bridge on the Dublin road outside Navan may be seized under the Control of Horses Act 1996 on Monday next 27th January by Meath Co Council unless they are claimed before then.
A notice was posted on Monday last 20th January by Meath Co Council and it is due to expire tomorrow Sunday (26th January) after which the local authority may intervene.
This morning (Saturday) the horses were still cowering against the elements in the field.
However, a number of local people have been endeavouring to provide assistance for the animals.
Their plight was highlighted in this week's Meath Chronicle by Johnstown teenager Megan Hill who has championed the animals that includes one foal.
“They have no fresh water or food and are feeding on marshy grass which contains plants poisonous to horses,” commented the 15-year-old in an interview this week in the Meath Chronicle in a story by Louise Walsh.
The horses appear to used to handling and are clearly visible to passing traffic on the Navan – Dublin road.
