Collingwood Cup medal for Barrett in 100th decider
Shane Barrett who helped Na Fianna to the Meath SFC final last year was involved in creating a little bit of history yesterday when he featured for NUI Maynooth in the final of the Collingwood Cup at the Belfield Bowl in a 2-1 win against NUI Galway.
In the centenary year of the competition this was the first title for NUI Maynooth and Barrett made a big contribution when he was introduced as a second-half substitute.
Barrett is a student in Maynooth studying English and philosophy and is in his final year. He is hoping to go into guidance and counselling.
He was one of the 12 monthly nominees for the 2013 Meath Sports Person of the Year award at Knightsbrook Hotel last January after he was nominated folloiwng his five-goal haul in the SFC game against Moynalvey.
He played League of ireland soccer with Drogheda and Longford Twon and won two FAI Cup medals with Longford.
It's liklely that he will now return to club football action with Na Fianna ahead of the start of the Meath SFC in April.
