First round of Meath Anti-Litter League results announced
The first round of the Meath County Council Anti Litter League has been completed.
'This year we had the highest number of entries ever, 138 groups across the County cleaning and maintaining their areas,' commented Bernadine Carry, Pride of Place Initiatives.
'We have lots of new groups which is encouraging, and many of the stalwarts who have been with us from the start of this competition.'
In addition this year Coca Cola has come on board and sponsored three awards in the East Meath area. These awards will go to the highest scoring entry, town, village or housing estate in Laytown, Bettystown, Mornington, Gormonston, Stamullen, Julianstown, Duleek or Bellewstown with prizes of €500, €250 and €100. There will be a trophy for the winner also.
The Meath County Council Anti litter League takes place over a six week period, starting March 2nd and finishing on April 11th. Each entry will be visited by a judge once a fortnight throughout the competition and marks will be lost where litter is found. Each centre can get extra marks for the overall appearance of their area.
There are five categories: small towns and villages, medium towns and large towns, and small and large housing estates. There will be over €5,000 in prizes awarded to the winners at an awards evening in May.
