Corner Boy date in The Central

Following on from their recent performance with Damien Dempsey at Athboy Live, Corner Boy announce the release of their new single 'True North’ and their upcoming ticketed event at The Central Bar, Navan.
The only way is up for this Irish folk band who you would be forgiven for comparing similarities to Mumford and Sons. In February they were guests on The Late Late Show with Ryan Tubridy.  Gigs Ireland presents Corner Boy at the Central on Thursday 5th June, with guest support from blues singer songwriter Johnny Stewart and local blues grass two piece, The Handsome boatmen.
Winners of Red Bull Bedroom Jam 2013, Corner Boy release their new single taken from their debut studio EP recorded with producer Joe Chester, who has worked with Irish artists such as Ryan Sheridan, Mundy, Gemma Hayes, The Coronas.
Playing their first ever show at the Other Voices Derry music trail in February 2013, Corner Boy have gone on to perform at some of the biggest festivals in the country including Electric Picnic, Westport Festival, Indiependence and Knockanstockan. Life on a Farm has certainly instilled a strong  work ethic in the band who have toured relentlessly, and are set to perform in all 32 Irish counties this year.
Corner Boy has modern folk Americana with gospel/blues influences fused with traditional Irish instrumentation. They incorporate traditional Irish music into the modern 'new folk’ sound to give folk lovers in Ireland a distinctive, relevant and current but familiar environment to stamp their feet too. They provide catchy melodies and instant sing along lyrics that radiate energy; bringing the marriage of the new folk revival and Irish trad into the 21st century.
Corner Boy is the pseudonym of young Irish folk singer/guitarist Michael D’Arcy. From an early age Corner Boy began to hone his musical craft through various traditional, folk and rock groups/collectives. In September 2011 he upped roots to Canada and through the bustling Montreal folk scene work started on the recording of his debut release.
Unusually emigration was the spark that ignited the flame bringing the five members of Corner Boy together, all friends from the farmlands of rural Wexford. When lead singer Michael returned home from Canada, the five friends joined forces to form Corner Boy.
Corner Boy’s music blends together traditional Irish instruments and folk progressions with contemporary musical themes. Their style gently nods to Northern American folk and layers each tune with soaring vocal harmonies. All of which gives Corner Boy its distinctly energetic sound juxtaposed with a haunting narrative.
