29th staging of Trim Vintage & Veteran Car Show this Sunday
This Sunday will see the 29th running of the annual Trim Vintage & Veteran Classic Car Show at the Porchfields, Trim.
Over the years, this show has become one of the largest vintage car gatherings in the country, with exhibitors from all over the 32 counties.
Staging a successful, enjoyable and safe day out for all who attend takes an enormous amount of dedication from a lot of people, and at least 35 stewards are needed on the day of the show to run a smooth and safe venue for exhibitors and visitors alike.
Over the years, the committee has found it hard at times to stage the event but has always found a way to make it happen on the day. Up to two years ago, the committee was comprised mainly of members who did not own a classic or vintage vehicle but who had the interest and enthusiasm to run a showcase for people to exhibit their pride and joy.
With the recession getting hold, it looked as if the show would not happen in 2012. But, by chance in 2011, a group of local classic car-owners formed the Trim Classic Car Owners Club (TCCOC). In 2012, when it became apparent that the July date for the show was not about to be met that year, the newly formed club offered its help and, in just six weeks, a new joint committee set about staging an event that September.
After a hectic few weeks, the show went ahead and proved to be a success. The new committee members, being classic car-owners themselves, had invaluable contacts with other clubs all over the country and sent out a plea for help. As a result, they were able to hold the 2013 event back in its normal July slot.
As well as the many vintage and veteran cars which will be on display, this year’s show will feature a garda helicopter, provided it is not called to an emergency, as well as the ever-popular dog show, side shows, auto jumble and refreshments.
The show will be celebrating 50 years of the Mini Moke, Ford Corsair, Fiat 850 and the Porsche 911.
The new Leinster Set Dancers will also be there to give a display, as will the local Peacock Dance Company.
Entrance to the show is €5 for adults with children under-12 free. Proceeds, as always, will be donated to local charities.
