Martin off to a flyer at Galway
Trainer Tony Martin saw the Meath colours flash past the post first in the big amateur flat race at Galway this evening when the John Breslin-owned Quick Jack stormed up the hill to win the €42,000 feature on the opening day.
Martin and jockey Steven Clements were completing a double in the big race as last year they won with Edeymi.
Quick Jack could turn out again in a flat race on Friday although there is also an entry in the Galway Hurdle on Thursday but it would require some 18 horses to come out for the five-year-old to get a run.
Quick Jack was running in a hood for the first time and won comfortably.
Martin also saddled the fourth home, Spacious Sky.
The Tote returns for the opening day were close to €740,000.
