Cows vanish from Athboy plot!

An appeal for the safe return of three cows stolen from Athboy last week has been made by the local tidy towns group.
This bizarre ‘cattle rustling’ incident did not involve actual livestock but rather a large poster depicting three cows that went missing on last Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, 29th or 30th July.
The six feet by four feet corrugated board poster was erected in the ‘Spiral Bed’ at the Delvin/Frayne Road junction since early June and the bovine trio drew much favourable comment during their stay in Athboy.
The area has been cared for by Athboy ICA under the tidy towns ‘Adopt a Plot’ initiative. There was a gap in the fence where it was going to take a few years for the greenery to cover over. To fill in this unsightly gap, they came up with the idea of putting up something of interest and decided on the large poster with three cows.
Athboy Tidy Towns chairperson, Mary Flood has appealed for the poster to be returned. She explained that the poster had cost the tidy towns €75 and had then been put up by volunteers. She said it had brightened up the corner and was something funky. The poster went missing the night after the Pride of Place judging had taken place.
“We searched the area and thought maybe youngsters had taken it and left it somewhere but didn’t find it. It is not much use to anyone only us. People are looking out for it but there has been no sign of it yet.”
The theft was also reported to local Gardai. Anyone with information is asked to contact any member of the tidy towns group or Kells Gardai.
