Trim win but still lose out
Mark McCormack scored from an injury time penalty to help earn Trim a 1-10 to 0-9 victory over Nobber in the IFC at Bohermeen today but it wasn't enough to sustain their title ambitions.
Trim's narrow defeat, added to Ballinlough's victory over Syddan, meant that it was the latter who progress to the knock-out phase.
This was a game Trim will regret missing some good opportunities and in the end it was a marginally inferior score differance that scuppered any hope they had of progressing.
They didn't secure their win over Nobber until injury time when a point from Eoin McGrath followed by a penalty expertly converted by Mark McCormack ensured they would back the points.
Nobber needed to win this game also if only to avoid a relegation scrap but they failed to do so and now face a struggle to stay in the intermediate ranks.
Brian Farrell topscored for Tont Carney's side but they couldn't get the goal they needed in the closing stages.
Nobber led 0-6 to 0-5 at the break but Trim came back strongly in the second-half to snatch a dramatic victory.
