Geraghty heading up cycle challenge at navan races
A novel fundraising event will take place at Navan Racecourse on Saturday 6th September which will help raise funds for Youth Work Ireland Meath. Gold Cup and Grand National winning Jockey, Barry Geraghty along with some of his weigh-room colleagues will take part in the challenge and race against each other on static cycles to further boost the charity's funds.
The charity hopes to raise awareness for Youth Work Ireland Meath and raise funds which will go directly to their services.
Geraldine Hogarty, Regional Director explains: “We hope it will be a great day at the races and people will enjoy the fun and fantastic facilities at the track and of course the National Hunt Racing that will be taking place. During the day our main aim will be to cover the distance of 100k on the bike, this will be done by a team of dedicated volunteers from our non-profit charity organisation. To make the event more fun we will be doing mini time-trials where jockeys will be cycling against each other and members of the public. Meath Chronicle Sports Personality of the Year and top jockey, Barry Geraghty will be participating in this event and there will be a raffle and spot prizes so it should add to the excitement on the day”.
If you would you like to challenge a top jockey to a time trial on a stationary bike come along and put your name in the hat and if you’re lucky enough you can say you rode against a top jockey and maybe beat them!
If you’d like to help the teams reach their goal by donating come along on the day, or visit our donation page on www.meathyouthfederation.ie
Johanna McGarry, Operations Manager, Navan Racecourse said: “Navan Racecourse is delighted to be able to facilitate such a unique and fun event in aid of the Youth Work Ireland which is a brilliant facility for the young people of Meath. The afternoon promises to be full of fun and of course racing action. We might even get our new Racecourse Manager Peter Killeen to give one of the jockeys a run for his money. On the day patrons can look forward to a full national hunt card with seven hurdle races. After an eight week break we are delighted to be back racing and the track is in super condition.”
The first race is off at 2.35pm. General admission is €12 and children have free entry. Check our website for further details www.navanracecourse.ie
