Goalkeeper treacy braces himself for busy week
This week promises to be busy for young Meath goalkeeper Ross Treacy who is a member of the Republic of Ireland soccer squad that is taking part in a series of UEFA u-17 Championship qualifiers.
Treacy, who played for Parkvilla but who is now on the books at St Kevin's Boys in Dublin, was between the posts as the Republic inflicted a 5-0 defeat on Gibraltar at Athlone Town's home ground last night.
The Irish had a let off in the opening minutes when a Gibraltar player had a shot that rebounded off the woodwork and away.
However, goals from Trevor Clarke (two), Conor Davis, Zach Elbouzedi and Robert McCourt secured the win for the Irish.
Ireland now meet the Faroe Island in their next group game tomorrow (Wednesday) at Eamon Deacy Park, Galway, 7.30 before moving to the City Calling Stadium in Longford to take on Scotland on Saturday, 7.30.
Treacy has also gained plenty of experience in the international front. He was selected for the u-15 Irish squad for a trip to Qatar and earlier this year played for Ireland in an u-17 tournament in Hungary.
