Another planning application for kfc

A new planning application for a KFC restaurant at Navan’s Brews Hill is to be made to Meath County Council.
A previous application for the same site which was refused by An Bord Pleanala last April, caused huge anger as its proposed location at the old National Forresters site, is at the gates of two schools.
However support had also been expressed for the project which was expected to create 40 local jobs.
Scotco Eastern Ireland Ltd has issued a site notice stating it is seeking planning permission at the Brews Hill site for a double height single storey cafe and drive through restaurant, 38 car parking spaces, vehicular signage, electricty substation, ancillary site development, services and landscaping works.
Ms Mary Mulligan, principal of St Josephs Secondary School, who had opposed the previous planning application, said that after all the struggle they went through last year, she hoped Meath County Council wouldn’t even consider the application.”
Opposition to the plan had been expressed in light of childhood obesity, and traffic problems.
Last April, Bord Pleanala refused planning permission to Herbel Eastern Ireland Ltd for the proposed KFC outlet at Brews Hill in Navan, citing concerns over the design of the building saying it didn’t fit in with the streetscape of Brews Hill.
Cllr Tommy Reilly said the loation was totally the wrong place for such a development.
“I want the council to buy that carpark themselves. If it is gone, you might as well put gates up at either end of Trimgate Street, because it will destroy business in that area,” he said.
However, Cllr Shane Cassells said that in a week where the town was losing almost 60 jobs, it was welcome to see a company wanting to come and create 40 jobs and transform a vacant derelict site with a €2million investment.
