Omahonys prove best in keegan cup decider
Navan O'Mahonys claimed the Keegan Cup with a narrow 2-11 to 2-9 victory in the decider at Pairc Táilteann this afternoon in front of 5,066 patrons, many of whom were delayed at the turnstiles due to congestion which resulted in a delayed throw-in time in the interests of safety.
It didn't look good for O'Mahonys after only two minutes as they were blitzed by a two-goal salvo from Andrew Tormey and Bryan Menton, but it was level 2-2 to 0-8 at the interval.
O'Mahonys found the net early in the secon-half when Ruairi O Coileain finished to the net for a 1-8 to 2-3 advantage and around the three-quarter stage O'Mahonys added another goal.
On this occasion O Coileain made the opening and Jake Regan scrambled the ball to the net.
Regan finished with 1-4 and claimed ther man-of-the-match award.
O'Mahonys manager Davy Nelson said: I was nervous right up to the final whistle, Donaghmore/Ashbourne never gave up.
Donaghmore/Ashbourne manager Paul Clarke said: I knew that start wasn't going to win the game for us.
Navan O'Mahonys will play Rhode (Offaly) or St Patrick's (Louth) in the Leinster Club SFC quarter-final on 9th November away.
