Brendan Boylan makes sure the Dunboyne playes have the correct jerseys for the presentation in Navan today.

Dunboyne claim a fl div 1 title

After tasting defeat in the Feis Cup final a few weeks ago Dunboyne footballers returned to Navan's Pairc Táilteann today and brought the A FL Div 1 Mooney Cup home after a tough decider against three-in-a-row-chasing Na Fianna.

Na Fianna were bidding for an unusual record of three successive titles - they won the A FL Div 3 in 2012, A FL Div 2 in 2013 and a victory today would have completed an unusual hat-trick.

However, Dunboyne were bidding to avoid a hat-trick of final defeats this year - apart from the Feis Cup final, their second team lost the JFC final replay last week and a defeat today would also have constituted an unusual hat-trick also!

Dunboyne were ahead by 2-4 to 1-2 at half-time with Michael Dunne and Donal Lenihan finding the net while Shane Barrett replied for Na Fianna.

Conor Daly's second-half goal extended Dunboyne's lead to 3-6 to 1-2 soon after the resumption and then Na Fianna lost Tommy Cosgrave to a red card which seemed a bit harsh?

Lenihan added another goal for Dunboyne and although Na Fianna battled back with another Shane Barrt goal (penalty), it wasn't enough.

'We needed to win htis to finish the season with a trophy' commented Dunboyne manager Conor O' Donoghue.

Dunboyne played in green but after the final whistle all changed their jerseys for the presentation.
