Title for nobber boys
Nobber clinched the first MFC title of the year today at Pairc Tailteann in Navan when they edged out Blackwater Gaels in a high-scoring and thrilling Div 5 13-a-side decider by two points.
Nobber won by 3-13 to 3-11 and while they were always on the front foot, they found the going tough against a spirited Blackwater gaels side made up of players from Drumbaragh, Carnaross and Kilmainham.
Nobber were ahead by 2-8 to 1-6 at the interval with the goals coming from a penalty by Sam Ogungbe (see video) and Sean Meade while Stephen Meegan found the net for Blackwater.
Ben Sheridan netted for Nobber in the second-half but Ciaran McDonagh and James Hennigan scored goals for Blackwater Gaels to make it a thrilling finish as the Nobber boys prevailed.
Dean Halpin scored six points for Nobber and made a big contribution to the victory.
Nobber team was coached by Larry McEntee, Michael Finucane and John Clarke while Harry Newman and Noel Corcoran were in charge of Blackwater Gaels.
Both sets of selectors can be pleased with the respective performances with some excellent players on each team.
