Navan superheroes to raise funds for crumlins childrens hospital
Specsavers in Navan will play its part in a drive to raise €100,000 for refurbishment works at the ophthalmology unit in Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin this Halloween weekend.
The Navan store on Trimgate Street will host a Specsavers Superhero Family Fun Day event from Friday 31st October to Saturday 1st November.
According to Johann Fox, Head of Corporate Partnerships at the Children’s Medical & Research Foundation, Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin: 'The funds raised by Specsavers staff and customers will have an immediate impact in the ophthalmology unit for children and their families they will never know but this impact will be long-lasting.'
Kerril Hickey, Store Director of Specsavers Navan, added: 'We are delighted to have reached the halfway mark in our bid to raise €100,000 for such a great cause like Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. We have always admired the fantastic work the hospital does for children across Ireland and plan to put all our efforts into reaching the €100,000 goal by hosting our Specsavers Superhero Family Fun days.'
Our Lady's Children’s Hospital, Crumlin first opened its doors in 1956 and provides a high standard of care to the 130,000 children availing its services every year.
The Department of Ophthalmology at Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, for which Specsavers is fundraising for improvement, typically diagnoses and treats over 10,000 patients annually.
The service provides care to children suffering from common eye conditions, such as squints, which if left untreated can result in sight problems.
In addition the service offers evaluation and treatment of other complex eye conditions such as congenital cataract, congenital glaucoma and visual problems associated with neurological disease.
