Young meath jockey on the mark at towcester

Young Meath jockey Killian Moore is quietly and efficiently establishing a name for himself on the national hunt circuit in England and displayed all his talents at Towcester yesterday when he won a handicap chase with 14/1 chance Le Grand Chene for Gloucestershire trainer Sophie Leech.

The Navan man did well to keep the partnership intact in the two-mile, six-furlong event when the eight-year-old, which started its racing career in France and won previously last December at the same track, made a bad mistke at the eighth fence.

The Meath jockey stayed in the race and got his mount going again and started to make headway by the 12th fence before moving into second place three from home.

Moore made his challenge at the last and got to the front on the run in to win by a neck.

The ATR presenters were impressed with the Meath man’s performance and suggested he could be in the running for the ‘ride of the week’ accolade.

The victory with Le Grand Chene made amends for a fall in an earlier race when Killian’s mount slipped up on a bend

Moore has been in England now for a number of years and is currently working for the trainer of the winner having previously worked for Graeme McPherson in Stow-on-the-Wold as well as Ben Case and Mark Keighley.

Killian, a three-pound claimer, will be in action at Ffos Las on Sunday when he partners Olympic Boy in a handicap chase.
