Great excitement at primary schools finals
There was great excitement at Páirc Tailteann in Navan today for the first series of games in the annual Meath Primary Schools (Cumann na mBunscol) boys and girls football finals.
Tears of joy and sadness were shed in equal measure as players experienced victory and defeat on the big day, but regardless of the results, all the players can be proud of their respective achievements and also getting an opportunity to play in the home of the Meath football team.
The opening game for the Boys Div 2 title was one of the best of the day with Scoil Bhríde Kilbride getting the better of Scoil Bhríde Cannistown in a thriller by 3-10 to 2-5.
Next up was the Boys Div 6 final - this was a real feast of goals with Meath Hill winning by 8-4 to 6-5 against a gallant Dunsany side.
The girls from Dunboyne Senior were impressive in the Div 1 final as they got the better of St Paul's, Navan by 8-5 to 1-2.
Kentstown girls took the Div 2 title with a 2-7 to 2-2 victory over Gaelscoil Thulach na nÓg (Dunboyne) in what was a very close and exciting tussle.
In the Boys Div 5 final, Nobber had to work hard for victory by 3-5 to 2-3 against Mount Hanover.
The sixth final of the day saw a victory for Caomhin King's St Patrick's NS Stamullen as they won the Boys Div 1 Shield for the first time with a 6-9 to 1-4 victory against Duleek.
The remaining finals, which were postponed last week, will be played next Saturday.
See the Meath Chronicle out next Tuesday for all the photos or teams and presentations plus reports.
We will also be announcing the Spirit of the Final award winners from each game - a promotion by the Meath Chronicle in conjunction with Generali Pan Europe.
