Co Board chairman Conor Tormey presented the Hall of Fame award to Leo Halpin.

Oldcastle plot to fool leo works

Accusations of deception that left Oldcastle stalwart 'gobsmacked' were hurled at Peter Galligan and Eddie O'Reilly at last night's Meath GAA awards in the Newgrange Hotel, Navan when it emerged that the 2014 Hall of Fame recipient was Leo Halpin.

The presentation capped a memorable night at the annual awards at which all the sponsors of club competitions were guests of the Co Board.

On this occasion, the Hall of Fame recipient was shocked and surprised (see video clip).

MC Brendan Cummins made the announcement and conducted a brief interview with Leo Halpin who has been a stalwart of the north Meath club for many years.

'I nearly wasn't going to go,' commented Leo as he expressed his surprise - it appeared as if 'everyone' was in on the plot as members of his family also turned up on time for the presentation.

The other awards presented included footballer of the year to Niall McKeigue; young footballer of the year - Darragh Rowe; hurler of the year - Jack Regan; young hurler of the year - Charlie Bird; ground of the year - Skryne; club of the year (joint) - Ballinlough and Kiltale.
