Improved facilities for young needed in kells reilly told by local heroes
Meath East TD Regina Doherty has welcomed calls for improved facilities for children and young people in Kells.
During a visit to the town last week by the Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, James Reilly, Deputy Doherty said she was 'blown away' by the vigour and organisation of volunteers across the constituency.
The Fine Gael TD added that while it was humbling to see the commitment of volunteers to their respective groups, they cannot continue their great work without more money.
The Local Heroes group, amongst others, explained to the minister the need for improvements at the local playground, which includes the upgrade of the facility and its equipment.
It was noted that the facility should also cater for older generations who are looking to keep fit with the the addition of outdoor exercise machines.
Local councillor Sarah Reilly praised the work of Meath County Council in maintaining the playground at the Fair Green in Kells, which is almost 15 years-old. However, due to wear and tear, it is now badly in need of replacement, she added.
'As a parent myself, I am extremely aware of the need for improved play facilities in Kells,' she said. 'Together with the Local Heroes, we conveyed the real need for funding to replace the playground. Play facilities increase the much-needed social inclusion and physical exercise for our children considering Ireland's increasing obesity problems,' the Kells FG councillor said.
