Minister postpones meeting with roads group
The meeting between the Better Roads for North Meath Campaign and Transport Minister, Paschal Donohoe, which had been scheduled for this Wednesday, has been postponed - leading to an angry response from the campaign.
Chairperson Cllr Johnny Guirke expressed his dismay at the Department of Transport’s decision to reschedule the group’s meeting with the minister.
He said: “We’ve just been informed two days before the meeting that Minister Donohoe is busy with the drafting of new legislation to cover loopholes in the penalty points system and can’t see us until January.
“While I can appreciate his obligations, it is extremely disappointing to the people of north Meath, who will once again feel like they have been relegated to the bottom of the ‘to do’ list.
“This is the second cancellation we’ve had. The previous Transport Minister, Leo Varakar, could not find the time to honour his meeting with us in June,” he added.
Cllr Guirke said that in a county with five government TDs, “it shows a certain complacency in regard to the social and economic wellbeing of thousands of local constituents. I sincerely hope the minister can find the time to meet with us in January.”
