Meath young sportsperson of the year is harry purcell
Trim athlete Harry Purcell scooped the 2014 Young Meath Sportsperson of the Year award at the annual presentation night at Knightsbrook Hotel on Thursday evening.
Harry Purcell was also a monthly winner in the category for overall sportsperson of the year, the first time that has happened. He received a standing ovation from the 300 guests who enjoyed the evening.
The biggest names in Meath sport were in attendance at Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim this Thursday for the 2014 Meath Chronicle/Cusack Hotel Group eighth annual sports awards.
The young sportsperson of the year once again proved a hugely popular category and the six contenders each received a memento of their nomination - Harry Purcell, Charlie Bird, Jamie McGrath, Amanda McQuillan, Megan Thynne and last year's winner Elizabeth Morland.
Also presented were Outstanding Achievement awards to Dylan Connolly, James Conroy, Michelle Delaney, Jackie Shiels, Marie Louise Reilly, Grace Davitt and team awards to Kilmessan camogie team and Kiltale hurlers.
Finally, there were PRO awards for Brian Kelly (Seneschalstown GAA club) and Patrick Matthews (Kells/Blackwater FC).
